Water and energy efficient process industry
There is currently insufficient access to fresh water in Stenungsund to meet the needs of both the municipality and the companies. This has led to the municipality being forced to severely limit new construction until 2023, when a transmission line to Kungälv will be ready and additional water can be taken from there. The project intends to investigate how a better water situation can be created for the industries in Stenungsund, as well as how water conservation can be facilitated in other industries as well.
The companies in the process industry cluster in Stenungsund that participate in the project already use approximately 70% of the fresh water in the municipality and would, through water efficiency and various solutions for water reuse, have good opportunities to contribute to an improved supply of water throughout Stenungsund.
Water consumption is closely connected with both energy consumption and resource use as energy is used to clean, pump, heat and cool water and chemicals in water treatment. The purpose of the project is to investigate opportunities for water conservation within the industrial cluster in Stenungsund with a focus on process integration and industrial symbiosis. The aim is also to develop a methodology for water quality assessment and integrate it into an analysis tool for process integration which is under construction.
The project will carry out a current situation analysis that also includes future conditions and provide suggestions for measures and/or further investigations that need to be carried out in the next step in order to achieve reduced water consumption at the industrial cluster. The goal of the project is also to ultimately facilitate water conservation in other industries. In this way, the project can contribute to a better water situation in Stenungssund and generally facilitate the water efficiency work of industries.
