Policy lab for chemical recycling of plastics
The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency was commissioned by the government to propose measures to increase the recycling of plastics, with a particular focus on chemical recycling. Within the framework of this, the West Swedish Chemistry and Materials Cluster was asked to carry out a policy lab on the chemical recycling of plastics.
The purpose of the project is to increase the recycling of plastic by enabling investments in facilities for chemical recycling in Sweden. The project shall propose incentives and control instruments based on the industry's needs and be a complement to the work carried out by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency regarding measures to improve the conditions for chemical recycling.
The goal of the project is to propose incentives and control instruments with a particular focus on chemical recycling, but not proposals for forms of financial support, as investment support is considered to exist in the form of the climate step, the industrial step and green credits. The proposals that are drawn up must be detailed and contain a consequence analysis and be checked in terms of impact on the issue, as well as in terms of the EU's state aid rules.
