Inspection with drone-borne sensors
The project is a preliminary study on how drone-borne sensors can be used for inspection of process industries.
Maintenance of the infrastructure in, for example, pipes and chimneys is extremely important for safe and controlled control of industrial processes. Previous works with drones for inspection that have reached commercial status have dealt with manual measurements, but to reach the full potential of the technology, automation of the measurements must take place. There have previously been no published studies on the applications where it pays to develop automated drone technology for inspection. In this project, a number of use cases are developed where drone-mounted sensors can be used to improve the inspection of the infrastructure in order to produce data for the maintenance work.
The purpose of the project is to lay the foundation for a demonstration project that can demonstrate technology and methods for how drone-mounted sensors can be used to support preventive maintenance in the process industry.
The goal of the project is to produce a description of suitable use cases, their commercial potential, environmental and climate benefit as well as a plan to produce a demo that can be carried out by 2022-12-31 at the latest.
