Hydrogen on the West Coast

The project aims to gather knowledge and map the future need for climate-neutral hydrogen on the west coast, within western Swedish industry and within the power and heating sector. Next, which infrastructure is required going forward is examined and evaluated, and centralized solutions are evaluated against local ones.

In the transition to a climate-neutral society, hydrogen is an important piece of the puzzle to meet the nationally decided climate and environmental goals. Today, hydrogen is both a raw material, a residual product and a fuel for the industries within the cluster, and there are also more areas of use for hydrogen than what it is used for today. In order for hydrogen to be able to contribute to a climate-neutral society, it needs to be climate-neutrally produced.

Most of the West Sweden Chemical and Materials cluster is well gathered in a region around Stenungsund, Lysekil and Gothenburg, and there should be economies of scale to collaborate around hydrogen on the West Coast.

The project's results aim to serve as a basis for the further development of a coordinated strategy around hydrogen for the industrial, power and heating sectors on the west coast.
