Physicist Michael Carus, a leading European expert, market analyst, and political advisor in the renewable carbon-based economy, visited our summer meeting on May 30th. We took the opportunity to have a brief conversation with him about the path forward for the transition to a higher use of renewable carbon.
"In principle, we have many alternatives to fossil carbon today, such as biomass, CCU, and recycling, but they are all on a small scale and there is not enough political or societal engagement to try new ways. If the new solution is not perfect, we tend to stick with the existing system, even though it's the worst thing we can do," says Michael Carus.
Michael Carus is the co-founder and CEO of the private and independent nova-Institute for Ecology and Innovation and the Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI). RCI represents around 70 member organizations in their interactions with EU bodies, for example through position papers and scientific background reports on current topics.
"Swedish companies are underrepresented in the Renewable Carbon Initiative, and we really hope that more will join so that we can also present Sweden's position in Brussels. I would love to do that!" concludes Michael Carus.
