New Products & Services
Area of focus New Products & Services focuses on material and product development from production to the end customer. Issues related to getting past potential obstacles around, for example, business models, legislation and policy instruments are also handled here.
Why New Products & Services?
The transition to a fossil-independent industrial region requires that competitive and climate-efficient products and services can be produced and introduced in established or new markets. To achieve this, new technologies, competences, thought patterns and networks of actors need to be put together in functioning value chains. Not infrequently, external influencing factors are also required in order for already established or new value chains to have a desirable development. It can, for example, be about control instruments of various kinds that adjust parts of the economic or legal conditions of the value chains or their markets.
What do we focus on?
Among other things, we work with questions about how the introduction of so-called mass balance standards can be used to document and communicate the content of renewable, recycled and fossil raw materials in a production chain. Policy labs in the form of a forum for members of the West Swedish Chemistry and Materials Cluster to discuss policy-oriented issues and trade-offs of various kinds are also an important part of increasing the dialogue with decision-makers in order to increase the possibility of developing new products on the market.
Our goals until 2025
-
At least three activities carried out where need owners are matched with other actors to identify and analyze potential for new or changed value chains, e.g. identification of possible material shifts from fossil to renewable or recycled in end products.
-
At least one project completed that identifies opportunities/obstacles for products to be sold on the market, for example current certification, requirements and/or public procurement.
-
Mapping of the function, capacity and resources of relevant test beds has been carried out.
-
An annual action plan has been drawn up where relevant policy issues have been identified, and activities specified such as dialogue meetings with politicians and authorities or preparation of material for current government investigations.
